A yeast infection of any kind can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, especially when they occur in the genital area. Most yeast infections are caused by an organism called Candida albicans. But how to get rid of a yeast infection?
There are many home remedies methods on how to get rid of a yeast infection. If you have never had a vaginal yeast infection before, it can be quite worrying. So the first port of call for many women is their doctor or gynecologist to rule out any sexually transmitted diseases. You will usually be prescribed a topical or oral anti-fungal medication, sometimes both in more severe cases.
Those of you who are no stranger to yeast infections or do not want to use chemicals or go through the embarrassment of seeing your doctor, you can opt for some home remedies for yeast infections, many of which are based on prevention, re-balancing and soothing the symptoms.
Home Remedies to Fight Yeast Infections:
Internally – Adding probiotics to your daily diet is a great preventative measure against yeast infections. When something causes the yeast to grow out of control, the solution is to try to bring things back in balance by restoring the friendly bacteria population. This can be done by ingesting yogurt and probiotic drinks daily.
Externally – Plain unsweetened yogurt has been used to soothe the itching and burning of a yeast infection by applying it to the affected area for 20 minutes.
2. Coconut Oil
Internally – Use coconut oil when cooking food to tap into its benefits.
Externally – Because of its anti-fungal properties, which is said to kill the fungi that cause a yeast infection, coconut oil can be applied externally to any affected areas, 3 times a day. To further control the growth of the infection, using one part coconut and one part cinnamon oil, in the same way, can be used. This remedy can also be used as a mouthwash for oral thrush.
